We’re introducing size standardization for Apparel & Footwear listings on eBay — a step toward improving listing quality, buyer trust, and overall marketplace performance.

This update will apply to listings created via APIs, File Exchange, and third-party tools like yours.

What’s changing?

Starting from June 2026, eBay will begin automatically normalizing existing listings with high-confidence size values (e.g., “Small” → “S”) and flagging low-confidence or invalid entries (e.g., “See description” or “N/A”).

Starting from July 2026, all new and existing listings with non-standard, missing size values, and/or condition values will be blocked from the site or placed on hold.

What this means for your integration

  • While technical changes are required long-term, for the launch, they are not immediately necessary
  • eBay will handle normalization of high-confidence values automatically
  • This will result in your system showing a different value than eBay’s  (e.g., “S” vs “Small”)
  • If high-confidence, non-normalized values are re-sent, eBay will continue to normalize them

While no action is required, we recommend aligning your size schema with eBay’s standardized values over time to ensure consistency.

Why this matters

Standardized size data can help:

  • Improve listing visibility in filters and search
  • Deliver more consistent listing performance
  • Increase buyer confidence and reduce returns

Key dates to know

    • Starting June: Normalization begins
      • Auto-normalization begins for high-confidence values
      • Warnings will appear on low-confidence values
      • We’ll also remove the ability to input custom values on new listings
  • Starting July: Full enforcement begins
    • No change on high-confidence values
    • Full enforcement for low-confidence values or invalid (blocked or put on hold)

Next steps

  1. Review how size values are currently passed through your platform
  2. Factor alignment of  your size fields to eBay’s standardized values into your roadmap

We’ll continue to share key updates and support resources ahead of enforcement. If you have questions, please reach out via your usual partner contact or Developer Support.
