We’re introducing standardized Condition Requirements for Coins on eBay – a key step to improve buyer trust, listing consistency, and overall marketplace performance.

This update directly impacts your integration and any sellers listing Coins through your platform.

These changes will be applied to the following categories starting May 6, 2026:

  • 253 - Coins: US
  • 256 - Coins: World
  • 3377 - Coins: Canada
  • 4733 - Coins: Ancient
  • 18466 - Coins: Medieval

What’s changing?

Starting early May 2026, API users will be requested to provide condition requirements information when creating or revising listings in the categories above. Starting Phase 2 (see below), listings or revisions that do not include this information will be blocked, hidden, or fail to publish.

These changes will be rolled out in phases. Please refer to the “Timeline Guidance” section below for more details.

For the impacted categories, sellers must set the coin’s condition to either:

  • Graded
    • Grading company (required)
    • Grade (letter + numeric) (required)
    • Certification number (optional)
  • Ungraded
    • Sellers must select from standardized condition buckets (e.g., Uncirculated, About Circulated, Extra Fine, Fine, and Below Fine)

This replaces free-text condition descriptions and introduces consistent inputs across all listing flows.

Updated details will also be reflected in the Sell Metadata’s getConditionPolicies API call.

Timelines

Please ensure your integration is updated ahead of the following milestones:

Phase 1 (Early May 2026) Phase 2 (Early June) Phase 3 (Early July)
API warning only for all new and existing listings in above-mentioned categories API mandate for new listings in above-mentioned categories API mandate for existing listings in above-mentioned categories

Any listings missing required condition data during Phase 2 & 3 may be blocked, hidden, or fail to publish.

Condition data migration strategy

To support this change, we will automatically migrate existing live listings during Phase 1.

Listings with a clear one-to-one mapping between current item aspects and the new condition r4equirement fields will be automatically updated. It is your obligation to review such updates and to change them if you disagree with the new aspects or condition requirements assigned.

If a listing does not contain sufficient data for migration, the new condition fields will remain empty.

Important note: Listings missing the required condition fields will not be ended at this time (Phase 1).

What we need from you

To ensure a smooth transition for your sellers, please ensure the following actions are taken:

  • Update your integration
    • Support new condition grading fields
    • Validate required inputs for Coins categories
  • Test your listing flows
    • Ensure both graded and ungraded paths are supported
    • Confirm error handling for missing/invalid data
  • Plan for migration
    • Review how existing listings will be updated or prompted
